William Johnson Marlow was born in Wilkes County North Carolina August 5 1845 and passed from this life April 12 1917.

He enlisted in the army in February 1865, serving to the close of the war. He was a member of Co I 3rd Regt North Carolina Infantry, afterwards a member of Wash Alexander Post No. 176 G.A.R. of this city.

He came to Illinois in 1866. On April 8 1875, he was married to Mary Ellen Younger. To this union were born 5 children. One, William Newton, died in infancy, another, Mertie Almdia, passed away about 6 years ago at the age of 29. Of his immediate relatives, there survive him, besides his life companion and helpmate, 2 sons and 1 daughter, James Azel, Roy Harold and Alma May, and 2 granddaughters. There are also 2 sisters living in North Carolina.

On February 17 1889, he united with the Christian Church of Bethany, under the ministry of Elder Harrell. His membership here has been continuous.

The funeral services were conducted at 2:30 Friday afternoon April 13 at the Christian Church and were in charge of Rev Curis M Wright. The G.A.R. Post attended in a body at Bethany Cemetery.
